Its hot outside. Most of our Summer here in 2017 rose to a mere 70 degrees, then the Hurricanes came and now in late September we have 95 degrees. By definition, we are experiencing an Indian Summer. We also are celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Summer of Love for the Boomers who may have it on their kitchen table with its AARP Peter Max cover. The good-ole days.

In that publication it was nice to read how The Summer of Love spawned the Health Food Movement, and the Environmental Movement, so that our Nation’s rivers no longer catch fire, from that time onward. We had hit the wall of mistreating Mother Earth and we are all the better for it. These trends have kept many of us closer to the Earth.

Going back is where we find a treasure trove of wisdom for going forward into the future. Kent Nerburn compiled a marvelous book of writings and speeches by Native Americans leaders entitled, “The Wisdom of the Native American,” New World Library, Novato, CA. Here are a few quotes,

“Let us put our minds together and see what kind of life we can make for our children.”     –Sitting Bull IMG_20140822_180017337_HDR

“All things are connected. Whatever befalls the earth befalls the children of the earth.         —Chief Seattle, Suqwamish and Duwamish

“It does not require many words to speak the truth.” –Chief Joseph, Nez Perce

“You must speak straight so that your words may go as sunlight into our hearts.” –Choise, Chiricahua Chief

This week, Time magazine published an Special Issue entitled, “Mindfulness”.

Its delightful to see us coming around to our personal truth and its connection to everyone and all things.
